Jill Deedman has got in touch with the sad news that, on 22nd September 2022, her husband Douglas Deedman passed away peacefully aged 73 years at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital.
Douglas was a pupil at the school 1959-1966, later working at the school as a laboratory technician until going on to train as a teacher.
He taught Physics and Computer Science at the school and was also IT Co-ordinator from approximately 1990 until 2022.
The service is to be held at Bournemouth Crematorium on Thursday 6th October, 2.30pm. No flowers by request please, if desired donations to be made payable to Dementia UK C/O George Scott funeral services, 1537 Wimborne Road, Kinson, BH10 7BD, tel. 01202 578079.
I recall Mr Deedman. One memory in particular: there was a “Hobbies Exhibition” as a competition between houses. Some Year 11, who was impossibly sophisticated for me, a mere Y8 or Y9, had set up his own Bulletin Board System (BBS), a precursor to the internet. I spent the whole evening entranced and watching this him dial into it from the school’s IT suite (on top of the gym) under Mr Deedman’s wistful gaze. I was sure that I was witnessing the future. Unfortunately, I was so busy watching him that I had left my stand unattended, which was a bit of an issue as it was showing all my shotguns and cartridges. Thankfully my dad was manning the stand, but he did give me stern words when I eventually returned.
Thank you Ross. Nice to hear about things he did. I recall we used bulletin boards long before email was available.
How very sad to hear. I remember Mr Deedman as a thoroughly decent teacher and nice chap to be around.
