Golf afternoon

Alan Carver is arranging an Old Bournemouthians golf event on the afternoon before this year’s Annual Dinner, on 11th September. Alan would like to see some OB new faces and even any recent school-leavers, so come along to join the old hands, and maybe lift the annual OB Golf title and trophy and join those ‘Legends’ of the past!

All OBs can play, even if you are not necessarily coming to the OB Annual Dinner.

Depending on numbers entering we will play in pairs, threes, or fours, so if you know someone who you would like to play with then give me his name.

Alan has arranged for us to play at Highcliffe Castle Golf club as we have done in recent years. This is a shorter course than Parkstone, Meyrick or Queen’s Park. A round here, providing there are no hold ups, is about 3 to 3.5 hours, so we have good time afterwards for a natter and time to get ready for the dinner in Bournemouth. Highcliffe is about a mile from Christchurch. The first tee off is 12 noon, and at 7 minute intervals thereafter.

The green fee is £13 and there is a £3 contribution to prize money. The prize pot will besplit with 50% going to the winner and 25% to each of the winners of the longest drive and nearest the pin on one of the par 3 holes. There are no par 5 holes.

If you are interested, please call Alan on 07881 815184 as soon as possible, to give him the following information:

  • your email address
  • your full postal address
  • the years you were at the school
  • you handicap

Pre-dinner Golf Event, 19th September 2014

Are you ready for it? Please contact me soon if you are going to enter. Besides our regular “hackers” and semi-pro players, we would like to see some new Old Bournemouthians, especially some younger faces. So come along to join us and maybe lift the annual OB Golf title and trophy. All OB’s can play even if you are not necessarily going to the Dinner.

Depending on numbers entering and start times available from the course then we will either play Queens Park, which can take 4 or more hours or the Highcliffe Castle course (near Christchurch) which can take up to 3 hours. We try to have the first tee off time around 12.30pm and at at seven minutes intervals thereafter.

The entry cost is around £25, which is the green fee and prize money
for winner and runner up.

If you would like to play, then please send your email address, phone number, and postal address, along with details of your handicap (if you have one) and the years that you were at the school, to Alan Carver by email.

John Bathurst, an Old Tauntonian, has emailed with details of the 2013 Old Bournemouthian / Old Tauntonian Golf Day on 23rd May. John writes:

I won’t go deeply into the history (you probably know anyway) but sufficient to say that the OBs and the Old Tauntonians hold a joint golf day each year.

It started 19 years ago when the two associations met to contest The Hemmings Cup that was once competed for in athletics. Over the years the format has changed and we now meet to play three simultaneous competitions – The OB Seniors Trophy, The OT John Rush Trophy and The Pomeroys Cup for the best score of the day.

I’m an Old Tauntonian but have come to regard the OB players as my dear friends…. and I run the day (that’s run rather than ruin, I hope) on behalf of both associations.

Further details and an entry form are available here (Word format).

If you enter please send an email to the OB golf secretary Alan Carver so he can monitor OB entries. Please include your email address and telephone number when contacting him.
