I was at Portchester Road school until 1961. I loved my school days there and was unusually sad when I left. I particularly liked the cross country run and the mile and half mile track events. Lurking somewhere is the Joliffe cup (for the school mile). My name is on it and I’ve often wondered if the cup still exists.
What does puzzle me is why the name Portchester was dropped. Why is this when Mr Eaton, awarded the OBE for services to education, was such a prominent school in its day?
